Application for a new school number

It is the admissions office in the individual county municipality that must apply for a new school number. Such an application is sent to the Vigo coding group.

The following procedure has been adopted regarding the allocation of school numbers:

  • Schools changing affiliation from municipal/county to private or vice versa:

A new school number is assigned:

  • Schools that move to another premises with the same school name:

The same school number is retained:

  • Schools merge and move into one of the existing schools, and where one school name is retained:

Keeps the active school's school number:

  • The other school numbers set passive
  • Two or more schools merge and move to new premises with a new name:
  • A new school number is assigned
  • For private primary schools, the counties must submit a form for a new school number. This school number must be in series for the relevant county (ie start with the county number).

When registering, this form must be used:

Private schools

New private primary schools must contact the admissions office in the county where the school is located. It is the county that applies for the creation of the school number.

Private upper secondary schools must contact the Norwegian Directorate of Education to obtain a school number (three digits long).

Coding for schools, vocational training and OT units

It is Vigo IKS that creates codes for schools, vocational training and OT units at the suggestion of the counties.

Below you will find the number series in which the different types of school, vocational training and OT units should be located:

Example

Secondary school in Rogaland 11005:

  • The first part of the school number is the county number (e.g. 11) and the last three digits refer to the number series above.
  • Independent (private) upper secondary schools receive their school numbers through the Norwegian Directorate of Education. These are three digits long.
  • The number series 300, 400 and 900 are used for discontinued schools in connection with the county merger (regional reform).

Own school number for private primary school education at home

A school number - 24888 - has been created for private primary school education at home.

The school number is used for pupils receiving home education who are not linked to a special primary school. By using 24888, it is possible to distinguish these students from those registered at 24999.

Organization number for the schools

It is the school's company number that must be used in Vigo. This has the type Business (BEDR) in NSR.

Information about a current school can be found in the National School Register (NSR) or in the Brønnøysund Register .

To be included in statistics on upper secondary education, the school must be linked to one of the following business codes:

  • 85.310 (general subjects of study)
  • 85,320 (technical and other vocational fields of study)
  • 85,594 (adult education).
